Airway Academy was born out of Doctor Marielly’s hunger to learn everything possible to provide solutions for the clients she was seeing in her pediatric occupational therapy practice in Los Angeles.
The day Doctor Marielly learned about myofunctional therapy, everything changed. Right away she thought,
“This impacts every kid I work with. I never looked this closely at their sleep. I never looked at how they breathe. It makes sense now why they're all so dysregulated and such picky eaters.”
After identifying the potential of myofunctional therapy, she combined the concepts with her existing knowledge in sensory processing and cranial nerve integration.
After getting such great results for children, parents started confiding to Doctor Marielly OMDs were impacting their lives as well. Some did not share a bed with their partner due to snoring or a CPAP. Others were experiencing the same symptoms their child did. As a result, she expanded her myofunctional and occupational therapy services to include working with adults – and was delighted to watch their lives improve as well.
Now, Doctor Marielly has expanded her team to include other occupational and speech therapists who are able to provide superior care by combining practical therapy knowledge with the tools of orofacial myofunctional therapy.
